Elaine B. Jett, Ed.D., is Founder of Dyslexia Institutes of America.
Dr. Jett holds a doctorate from the University of Illinois in Education Curriculum and Instruction, with emphasis on Early Childhood and Reading Education. She is a former Assistant Professor of Elementary and Early Childhood Education at the University of Georgia and the author of Beginning Reading I (BRRI) and Beginning Reading II (BRII), kindergarten and first grade reading programs used in Sylvan Learning Centers throughout the United States and Canada. In addition, Dr. Jett wrote the Sylvan SLCRDT, a diagnostic instrument designed to determine an individual’s strengths and weaknesses in phonics, also used in Sylvan Learning Centers. With three other reading experts, she co-authored the Academic Reading Program (2nd through 12th grade), a reading program for Sylvan, used throughout North America.
Dr. Jett’s business and franchise experience arises from her 17 years’ ownership of three Sylvan Learning Centers, a Sylvan Testing Center, and two proprietary clinics for dyslexia treatment. In 1997, Dr. Jett published the Jett PHORCE® program, an extensive curriculum distributed solely for in DIA-affiliated clinics. In addition to her publishing and business activities, Dr. Jett has instructed students in grades K through 7, provided pre-service training to teachers, and lectured on dyslexia.
She is a member of the International Reading Association, the National Association for Gifted Children, and the Illinois Reading Council, and has served as Secretary, Illinois Council for the Gifted. Dr. Jett participates in numerous Illinois-based philanthropic and social causes.
